cancellation of a coaching session

When I'm writing these lines, I should be holding a coaching session with a business director who canceled the meeting half an hour before the scheduled time because something more important came up.

It happens, but then another manager called me to cancel our appointment for today - he was pulled into a super important meeting and he’s having an incredibly busy period anyway.

I know that life doesn't revolve around the coach, and sometimes clients have to cancel a scheduled session.

I'm prepared for this, we agree on the conditions of cancellation at the beginning of our collaboration with every single client, because that's fair.

May is the month of mental health - act accordingly

I work with several C-level executives whom I support in their work, personal and professional development for years. The focus of executive coaching is on the leader's goals and challenges. I see them struggle, lose, win, rise and grow.

Without exception, they all struggle with the challenge of constantly attending meetings, not having time to do tangible work, let alone prepare strategy or focus on the development and well-being of their colleagues.

Life at the top of the food chain is not easy, there is a lot of pressure and resources are limited.

I teach my clients to assess whether it is possible to reduce the demands placed on them or increase their resources to minimize chronic stress.

If there is too much on your plate, you either cancel a meeting/project/task or ask for reinforcement, delegate, and seek help.

Today, my clients who canceled the sessions did not reduce the demands, but missed an opportunity to increase their resources.

Many people reach burnout by working a lot and only taking care of themselves if they have time left over for self care. According to their values, everything is more important than recharging and regaining the resources.

If you want to perform well in the long run and remain mentally healthy, the most important thing is to regularly invest time in yourself, even when there is extra pressure on all fronts, in difficult times.

In fact, it is most important to give yourself what you deserve especially during these times so that you can also perform better.

Always fill your tank first before you start pushing the gas pedal.
